About Dr. Gavin Elliott

After graduating with a BS in Biology and MS in Chemistry from the University of North Carolina, Charlotte, Dr. Elliott attended medical school at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill.

He completed his internship in general surgery at Geisinger Medical Center in 1988 and his residency in anesthesia at the University of Pittsburgh in 1991 with a special focus in pediatric anesthesia, including 15 months’ training with the anesthesia department of Children’s Hospital in Pittsburgh. He was certified by the American Board of Anesthesia in 1992 and recertified in 2008. He is licensed to practice medicine in  MD, DC, and NC.

Although Dr. Elliott’s professional medical career has been largely in anesthesia, including 14 years on the faculty of Wake Forest University Medical School, he has also devoted considerable time to volunteer work in third-world countries, including general practice care in an integrated care clinic in India. In this role he had an opportunity to witness and experience the benefits of acupuncture and developed an interest in incorporating acupuncture in his practice. He has completed accredited acupuncture course work through the Academy of Pain Research and The Helms Medical Institute. Dr. Elliott was granted Board Certification in medical acupuncture by the American Board of Medical Acupuncture in April 2015. In May of 2020 Dr. Elliott was elected as a Fellow of the American Academy of Medical Acupuncture. In January 2021 he began working as a preceptor for the Helms Medical Institute.

He is now licensed to practice medicine and acupuncture in North Carolina, Maryland and the District of Columbia.

Dr. Elliott has also had extensive training in Qi Gong, primarily with Robert Peng. A personal daily practice helps bring this energy focus to his work and life.

Dr. Elliott is a member of the American Academy of Medical Acupuncture, a Diplomate of the American Board of Medical Acupuncture and a Fellow of the American Academy of Medical Acupuncture.
